NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Andraya Carter scored a career-high 19 points and No. 7 Tennessee used a solid defensive effort to beat Vanderbilt 57-49 on Monday night.
Ariel Massengale scored 12 points while Jordan Reynolds added 11 and Cierra Burdick 10 points for the Lady Vols (12-2, 2-0 SEC), who have won eight straight.
Vanderbilt (8-6, 0-2) has lost four of its last five. The Commodores narrowed the gap to 47-43 late before Tennessee’s Nia Moore hit a 3-pointer with 1:11 left to seal the win.
The lowest point total for Vanderbilt coach Melanie Balcomb in 13 seasons with the Commodores is 39 against Louisiana State on Feb. 18, 2010.
Tennessee outrebounded Vanderbilt 39-27, including a 17-12 edge on the offensive glass. The Lady Vols outscored the Commodores 12-4 in second-chance points and held an edge in the paint.
