KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Runners, walkers and bicyclists will be able to use a new section of the third creek Greenway.
The city of Knoxville announced Tuesday that a trail-rerouting project near Tobler Lane was completed under budget.
The project cost $80,000, down from the original private estimate of $225,000.
“It was a great project to work on,” said Peter Gerlach, Knoxville Construction Manager, “We had people on a daily basis stopping to tell us how much they appreciated what were were doing.”
Construction crews were able to shift the greenway to higher ground in order to avoid water runoff.
The Public Service Department says the shift will mean crews will no longer have to clean up the mess left behind after heavy rains.
According to Joe Walsh, the Knoxville’s Parks and Recreations Director, during hte peak summer months, an estimated 2,500 people a week us the Tobler Lane section of Third Creek Greenway.
