Man wanted for attacking Memphis panhandler

MEMPHIS (WATE) – A man caught on Facebook bragging about taking the law into his own hands is now wanted by the police.

Joseph Johnson, 37, told WREG he beat the man because the panhandler allegedly stole chainsaws used for Johnson’s tree cutting business. He said police never arrested the man.

Video of Johnson beating the man was posted to Facebook. Since then, the video has been shared thousands of times.

“It’s taken everything from me I don’t have,” Johnson told WREG over the phone. “You know Christmas i hard this year. I haven’t had no work. I’ve lost all my chainsaws. Iv’e lost all my equipment.

Memphis police have not been able to find Johnson, but officers say when he will be charged with simple assault.

The video has been shared thousands of times on Facebook.
