TDOT: Emory Road Bypass project in Knox County is past completion date

POWELL (WATE) – WATE 6 On Your Side is looking into concerns that a long-time Knox County construction project is taking longer than it was supposed to.

The newly aligned Emory Road will let you bypass Powell’s business district, taking you straight to Clinton highway. However, $16 million later, the long term project was supposed to be finished more than a week ago.

The bypass is still closed, crews are still working and Powell businesses are left wondering when the road that may take away potential customers will finally be open.

“Communication has been so off as far as when the finish date is when it’s going to open where it’s going to end, where is it going to start so it just remains to be seen,” said Orange Pearl employee Ann Underwood.

For every day the project continues past the December 13 deadline, TDOT says the contractor has to pay up $1,400.

TDOT doesn’t know how much longer this project is going to take. WATE 6 On Your Side was told some of things that aren’t finished are temperature dependent.
