JOHNSON CITY (WATE) – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has charged a prisoner with reckless homicide of another inmate.

Montrez Duncan, 32, was indicted with one count of reckless homicide and one count of tampering with evidence.

TBI special agents said that Duncan has an on-going dispute with a another inmate, Timothy Tillery, 24.

On July 24, Tillery was found unconscious in his cell. He was transported to the hospital where he died the next day.

Agents say Tillery entered Duncan’s cell and the two were involved in a physical altercation. They said Duncan and another inmate later carried Tillery, who was semi-conscious back to his cell where he was later found by guards during a routine count.

Duncan was booked Monday on a $50,000 bond and remains in custody at the Northeast Correctional Complex.
