KNOXVILLE (WATE) – A doctor headed to the streets of North Knoxville to care for the feet of the homeless on Wednesday.

Dr. Christine Seaworth works at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.

She joined a nationwide effort, “Our Hearts to Your Soles.”

This is the first time it’s been in the area.

The doctor and a team of volunteers gave away shoes, socks and also checked people’s feet for free.

“It’s so important for them, especially when they’re outside on uneven grounds and dangerous surfaces to protect their feet,” said Seaworth. “As well as many diabetics that need to protect their feet as well.”

One hundred pairs of shoes and 200 pairs of socks were given away.
