SEVIERVILLE (WATE) – It may only be Thanksgiving, but Christmas is starting early in Sevierville.
Wilderness at the Smokies kicked off their annual Christmas celebration.
Santa Claus also made an appearance, taking pictures with kids and getting some early Christmas wishes.
It is one of the busiest times of year in Sevier County as tourists spend the holidays heading to the mountains and the whole area lights up for Christmas.
“Once fall hits we start preparing for winter, but it’s just a fun way to get ready for the holidays and bring a lot of Christmas cheer to folks,” said Ellen Liston with Wilderness at the Smokies.
Decorated from floor to ceiling at Wilderness they welcome in the Christmas season each year on Thanksgiving.
“Thanksgiving really kind of kicks off the holiday season with Black Friday being tomorrow and everybody’s starting their Christmas shopping so Santa gets a little bit of a head start here,” said Liston.
Santa is not the only holiday happening for guests at Wilderness at the Smokies. They also have tons of activities including decorating cookies and writing letters to Santa.
But if you are not quite ready for Christmas they say they have you covered too with their indoor water park.
“For people that really can’t decide what their favorite season is–is it the holidays, is it summer, do you want to go to the mountains or the beach–you can kind of do it all here,” said Liston.
Even though it is only Thanksgiving they say they are just hoping to bring a little extra Christmas cheer to the area.
Santa will be at Wilderness every weekend until Christmas and even goes swimming with the guests on Saturdays in the water park.
