Knox County Schools nutrition official resigns after an investigation into alleged misuse of funds

KNOXVILLE (WATE) – Knox County Schools Nutrition Services Director resigned Thursday after an investigation into alleged misuse of funds.

Executive Director of School Nutrition Jon Dickl was placed on administrative leave in September after Knox County Schools initiated the investigation.

Dr. Jim McIntyre, Knox County Superintendent of Schools says he made the decision to terminate Dickl after he canceled an interview with detectives.

“We made clear to Mr. Dickl that while on paid administrative leave he was expected to fully cooperate with the investigations by the Sheriff’s Office and the State Comptroller’s Office.

McIntyre says shortly after he had instructed Knox County Schools Human Resources Office to proceed with the termination, they received a letter of resignation.

“As an organization, we might legally be able to refuse to accept his resignation and fire him instead,” says McIntrye, “but a resignation serves to end his employment with KCS without any further complication.”

A Knox County Schools Spokesperson says Dickl was hired in 2010.
