GSMNP shuts down roads, campgrounds over safety concerns

GATLINBURG (WATE) – The first round of winter weather this season is taking its toll on East Tennessee.

In the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, park workers say they’ve been forced to evacuate Cades Cove and the Elkmont Campground because of fallen trees.

All roads in the park have also been shut down. The park says they do not expect those to reopen before Sunday, and they are urging people to avoid the area until that time.
