MARYVILLE (WATE) – When it’s party time at Adrienne’s Dollhouse Boutique, 113 W Harper Avenue in Maryville, owner Sue Hooge and daughter Christy Stevenson are ready to make fun memories for their young party goers.

Stevenson is a former school teacher who left her home in Kansas City to help her mom.

” I loved what I did. I taught preschool for 21 years, but I was really ready for a change and this sounded like it couldn’t be a better idea,” Stevenson said.

That better idea started with dolls and blossomed into birthday parties. It’s a perfect fit for Sue who admits she never quite grew up.

“I’ve been a hairdresser all my life and I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do when I grow up, so I didn’t,” said Hooge with a laugh.

When we visited, the young partygoers were McKenna, sisters Hannah and Madelyn and their brother Caleb who decked out in top hat and star shades.

McKenna celebrated her birthday there a while back. She’s one of hundreds of little girls who’ve spent the day with Hooge over the past year. The business celebrated its one year anniversary just last week.

Hooge’s birthday parties are high energy, and the best part is she does everything from the invitations, to the outfits, to the music, the games and of course the snacks.

“It was like you would go on the runway, and be funky and eat and they make awesome cupcakes,” said McKenna Wright.

“They get to come in and be silly and not worry about expectations and what the world wants them to be like, and all prissy and calm. And they can just be fun and let go. It was good,” said her mom Tammy Wright.

Even young Hannah who says dress up is a bit out of her comfort zone, enjoyed the party.

“It’s fun either way, because I like getting down in the mud, but I like getting all dressed up feeling pretty and frilly,” she said.

Hooge and Stevenson are all about making happy birthdays and instilling young girls with self-confidence.

“Girls just need to feel pretty sometimes,” said Stevenson.

Sometimes guys want to have a little fun too.
