KNOXVILLE (WATE) – The city of Knoxville is unveiling plans for a project on the South Knoxville waterfront involving the old Baptist Hospital.
The city will make a major announcement about a multi-million dollar project on the South Waterfront Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Volunteer Landing.
A top city official told 6 News it has to with the old Baptist Hospital site, but reserved further details until after the announcement.
The complex dominates the south bank of the Tennessee River and could be a prime location for redevelopment.
In the past, Mayor Madeline Rogero has said that this site has one of the best opportunities for growth in Knoxville.
She said one idea was a mixed-use development that had retail, restaurants, and possibly condos.
Earlier this year, developer Blanchard and Calhoun out of Georgia told 6 News they entered a contract for the Baptist building.
The developer also has other projects in the area like the Brooklawn Village Shopping Center in Farragut, where a Kroger Marketplace is located.
